CLAUDIU T. SUPURAN is professor of medicinal chemistry at the Neurofarba Department, Section of Pharmaceutical and Nutriceutical Sciences, University of Florence, Italy. He has published more than 1250 papers, his Hirsch factor is h = 110; the number of citations since 1995 > 49800. His main research interest is on enzyme inhibitors, and especially carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, of which he discovered several new classes in the last years. One of the sulfonamides discovered in his group entered Phase I clinical trials in 2014 for the treatment of advanced, metastatic solid tumors. He is Editor-in-Chief of Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Patents, Journal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry, Current Enzyme Inhibition, etc. For the last 25 years the main interest of his research was focused on metallo-enzymes and their modulators of activity. In 2013 he was rated as the most cited scientists in Pharmacology & Toxicology by LabTimes (LabTimes 2013, 5, 38).
Dr. Simone Carradori obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Sapienza University of Rome (Italy). Currently, he is assistant professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy of “G. D’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara (Italy). The scientific activity is mainly focused on design, synthesis and characterization of novel synthetic and natural derivatives with potential biological activity and is documented from about 98 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and one patent.
Dr. Tunctan obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Pharmacology from Gazi University Faculty of Pharmacy, Ankara, Turkey. Dr. Tunctan is Professor of Pharmacology and currently Head of Department of Pharmacology Faculty of Pharmacy Mersin University, Mersin, Turkey. Her publications include over 200 papers, presentations, books, and book chapters on various topics in pharmacology and pharmacy. Dr. Tunctan was the Editor-in-Chief of this journal (Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Allergy Agent in Medicinal Chemistry) (2004-2015), published by Bentham Science Publishers. She is currently one of the Co-Editors of this journal.
Dr. Akgün obtained a doctorate (Ph.D) in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Hacettepe University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ankara/Turkey. She visited Department of Chemistry, University of New Mexico, as post-doctoral researcher, and, Department of Chemistry in Faculty of Science and Art, University of Florida, as visiting professor, both in the USA. She worked at Hacettepe University, in Ankara. Since 2004 she has been a full time professor in Faculty of Pharmacy, Yeditepe University, Istanbul. Currently, Dr. Akgün is also an adjunct professor in Faculty of Pharmacy, Near East University, in Cyprus. She has published more than 68 scientific publications and conference proceedings. Dr. Akgün has been an editor of this journal (Current Topics in Medicinal Chemistry, CTMC) since 2001, published by Bentham Science Publishers.
Dr. Ian Beales is Clinical Reader in Gastroenterology at the University of East Anglia and Consultant Gastroenterologist at The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. He qualified from the University of London in 1989 and completed postgraduate medical training in London and Cambridge, UK and the University of Michigan, USA. His clinical and research interests particularly concern the regulation of both the mucosal and systemic inflammatory responses in relation to gastrointestinal diseases and the development of novel anti-inflammatory strategies. The current focus of his work is on regulation of signal-transduction cascades and inflammation.
Dr. Tsuchida graduated from Kyoto University, faculty of Medicine, and obtained MD and PhD from Kyoto University. He is currently a full professor at the Division for Therapies Against Intractable Diseases, Institute for Comprehensive Medical Science (ICMS), Fujita Health University. He has published more than 100 scientific papers in international journals. His research interests include development of therapies for diabetes, obesity, cancer, inflammatory diseases and musculoskeletal diseases. His group is also involved in the characterization of tissue stem cells, signaling of endocrine hormones/Vitamins such as myostatin/activin/follistatin and peptide and lipid-derived growth factors, and the mechanism how non-coding RNAs regulate cell differentiation and development of novel drug delivery system.
Dr. Roberta Costi obtained a doctorate (PhD) in Medicinal Chemistry from University of Rome “Sapienza”. Currently, Dr. Costi is Associate Professor in Medicinal Chemistry at Dipartimento di Chimica e Tecnologie del Farmaco, University of Rome “Sapienza”. She is the author of more than 100 scientific publications, 80 communications and 2 patents in the field of antiviral, antifungal, antimycobacterial, antitumor (inhibitors of mammalian terminal transferase), and CNS agents (MAO inhibitors; anti-Alzheimer agents). She developed also chemical tools useful to study epigenetic targets. Dr. Costi has extensive experience in heterocyclic chemistry, with particular focus on pyrrole annulated heterocyclic systems.
Dr. Marc A. Ilies was born and educated in Romania, and received his PhD in 2001 with Professor Alexandru T. Balaban from C. D. Nenitzescu’s Department of Organic Chemistry of Polytechnic University of Bucharest. After post-doctoral studies from Texas A&M University and University of Pennsylvania, he joined the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, Temple University, where he is currently an Associate Professor and an affiliated member of Moulder Center for Drug Discovery Research. His research interests fit within the broadly-defined medicinal chemistry/chemical biology of membrane interfaces, being focused on the development of chemical solutions for the efficient and selective delivery of drugs and nucleic acids for therapeutic purposes.
Dr. Suleyman Akocak received his PhD, with Prof. Marc A. Ilies, in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Temple University School of Pharmacy (USA) in 2014. Currently, Dr. Akocak is Assistant Prof in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Adiyaman University, Turkey. His main Research studies focus on the design and synthesis of selective carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and activators. Also, he is synthesizing sulfo-substituted new molecules as an anticancer, antimicrobial agents and targeting several different types of enzymes, including acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, tyrosinase, aldose reductase, α-glucosidase, etc. He has more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals over 1600 citations.
Professor Dr. Somdet Srichairatanakool, obtained his B.Sc. (Medical Technology) in 1983 from Chiang Mai University, M.S. (Biochemistry) in 1989 from Mahidol University and Ph.D. (Haematology) in 2000 from University of London. His current research deals with the oxidative stress, iron metabolism and chelation in cells, thalassemia with iron overload; applications of natural products such as green tea and curcumin extracts for amelioration of iron-overloaded oxidative tissue damage; inhibitory effects of natural iron-chelating agents on plasmodium malaria parasites growth. Somdet Srichairatanakool has published 86 peer-reviewed publications indexed in SCOPUS (70 in PubMed) and 4 book chapters in Open-Access InTech Open Book.
Dr. Ashok R. Amin, has been on the Faculty of the Dept. of Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Tech. He led the Research in the Department of Rheumatology as Director of Research and Associate Professor of Pathology and Medicine at New York University’s Hospital for Joint Diseases. Dr. Amin also served as the Vice President of Research at Carilion Clinic and Advaxis Inc. He has acted as a collaborator or consultant to 17 different pharmaceutical companies, obtained 22 patents, and authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Amin's team discovered the drug ORACEATM (doxycycline, USP), which is currently being marketed by Galderma Inc.
Prof. Arnon Blum received his MD at the Technion, specialized in Internal Medicine at Hebrew University, and then in Cardiology at Tel-Aviv University. He served in the IDF as a Flight Surgeon (Lieutenant Colonel). Since 1999, Prof. Arnon Blum has been the Director of the Internal Medicine Ward at Baruch Padeh Medical Center-Poriya, Tiberias. Prof. Blum further concentrated on Vascular Biology and Vascular Stem Cell research, receiving his training at the National Institute of Health (Bethesda, MD, USA; 1997-1999 and 2006-2008) exploring means for cardio-vascular regeneration.
Dr. Mohammed M.I. El-Gamal, Ph.D., obtained his B.Sc. degree in pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Mansoura, Egypt in 2003 with "Excellent with honor" grade, first achiever, received his M.Sc. degree in medicinal chemistry from the same college, and then obtained his Ph.D. degree in medicinal chemistry in August 2012 from University of Science and Technology, Korea. After that, he worked as a star postdoctoral fellow at KIST and assistant professor of medicinal chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Mansoura, Egypt. Dr. Gamal is the author of more than 50 publications in highly reputed journals. he has 3 patents, and presented more than 36 posters and 8 oral presentations in many international conferences in The Republic of Korea, United Arab Emirates, USA, Japan, The Netherlands, and Austria. He has peer-reviewed more than 50 articles. He has been an editorial board member in more than 13 international journals. He is also a member of the Asian Council of Science Editors (ACSE). Dr. Gamal and his group have developed a new, more efficient prodrug of Olmesartan (antihypertensive agent) which has been marketed in the Republic of Korea. His interests include anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial drug development.
Dr. Osman Erkmen is professor of the Department of Food Engineering, Gaziantep University, Gaziantep, Turkey. He received his BS degree in Biology (1985) and MS degree in Food Microbiology (1987) from the METU (Turkey). He did his PhD in General Microbiology in 1994. He started his career as a research assistant at the Department of Food Engineering in 1985 and later became assistant professor in 1994, associate professor of Food Microbiology in 1999 and Professor in 2004. He expanded his research on natural antimicrobials in food preservation, foodborne diseases and food toxicology.
Dr. Roberta Galeazzi obtained her deegree in chemistry (1992) frfom the University of Bologna cum laude and worked as researcher since January 1993 at the Polytechnic Marche University, where she is assistant professor (SSD CHIM/06) of the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (DISVA). Dr. Galeazzi’s main research activity concerns molecular docking and molecular dynamics profiling of novel active compounds or natural ligands to their receptors with the aim of rationalizing the molecular basis of biological processes fundamental for the transduction of specific biochemical and physiological effects. She is co-author of 80 papers published in international peer-review journals and has attended congresses with oral and poster presentations.
Prof. D. Hadjipavlou-Litina received her Ph.D. in Pharmacy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece under the supervision of Prof. P.N. Kourounakis. She was promoted to full professor in 2009. Her research interests involve synthesis and pharmacochemical studies on anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents, on inhibitors of enzymes implicated in the inflammation and in the coagulation process in general, as well as the correlation of inflammation with cancer, the theoretical and experimental calculation of physicochemical parameters implicated in biological response, the relationship between structure and activity (use of Computational Chemistry in Drug Design) and analysis and comparative study of Quantitative Structure/Activity Relationships (QSAR) of various categories of drugs and bioactive molecules with the aim of commercially available calculation programs. Her research has resulted in the publication of over 210 peer-reviewed articles, and over 5400 citations. She is in the editorial board of 7 journals and the editor in two of the 7 journals. She has been awarded by the American Chemical Society twice for most assessed research published papers (Hadjipavlou-Litina D, Garg R, Hansch C. Chem. Rev. 2004, 104(9): 3751-94; Michaelidou AS, Hadjipavlou-Litina D. Chem. Rev. 2005,105(9): 3235-71).
Dr. Monique Lacroix completed her B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Food Sciences Technology in 1980 and 1982, respectively. She then obtained her Ph.D. in Nutrition in 1986. She is full professor at INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier, Canada and director of the Research Laboratories in Sciences Applied to Food. Prof. Lacroix is Fellow of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST) for her outstanding representatives of international food science and technology; she received 3 awards for her most cited publications in Food sciences and for the best 10 research partnership with industries for two partnerships. Professor Lacroix is author of more than 254 publications, 10 patents and 19 book chapters. Until today, she has supervised 12 post-doc, 99 graduated students of 2nd and 3rd cycles and over 315 trainees that come from all over the world. She has been invited to present over 184 conferences in major congresses, including United Nations conferences as a member of expert committees.
Fehmi Odabasoglu is Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Kafkas University-Faculty of Medicine, Kars-Turkey. He graduated from Ataturk University-Faculty of Science of Erzurum, Turkey in 1991. Dr. Odabasoglu completed his master's degree in 1994 and his Ph.D. degree in 1999 in Van-YYU. Later, in 2000, he founded the Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Department of Ataturk University-Faculty of Pharmacy and coordinated this unit for 15 years. Since 2014, he has been working as a senior scientist at the Medical Biochemistry Department at the Faculty of Medicine of the Kafkas University. Dr. Odabasoglu’s research interests include inflammation, gastric ulcers, anti-oxidative systems and enzymes, lichens and plant molecules, apoptosis, vegetable oils and molecular isolation-characterization.
Dr. Asish Saha is presently serving as a Director of research and Development at Zone Labs, Inc and working in the dietary supplements, health wellness and fitness industry. He was with Boston University for more than 25 years. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Calcutta University, India. His research interest includes how disorders of fuel metabolism cause disease. He has an extensive experience with preclinical testing of metabolic pathways targets using in vitro and in vivo models. He was an investigator in a multi-investigator project which provided the first evidence that AMP-activated protein kinase activity is abnormally low in the majority of patients and it improves after bariatric surgery. He demonstrated success as a leading investigator and collaborator of multiple projects with different Biotech companies (Nimbus Therapeutics, L’Oréal and Pfizer) and with Nimbus the discovery and development of a new class of Acetyl Co-A carboxylase inhibitors for the treatment of NASH and other disorders. He has co-authored 95 publications in international journals
Dr. Mohamed Labib Salem obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1995 through a channel system between Tanta University, Egypt, and Kyushu University, Japan. Dr. Salem is the Professor of Immunology at Tanta University, Egypt. Additionally, Dr. Salem is Director of the Grant, Innovation & Technology Transfer Center, and Director of Center of Excellence in Cancer research, Tanta University, Egypt. His h-index is 26 with over 2920 citations and more than 110 published articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Salem’s research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying how cancer and HCV escape from host immunity. Additionally, his research has been focusing on developing effective anticancer immunotherapies strategies.
Dr. Tundis graduated cum laude in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Calabria. She attended Post-graduate School in Clinical Pathology. Then she had positions of Post-doctoral fellowship (2004-2005) and of Researcher (2005-2014) at Department of Pharmacy, Health and Nutritional Sciences of University of Calabria. Dr. Tundis research interests include the development of analytical strategies for the qualitative and quantitative determination of constituents of extracts, isolation, structural characterization and the in vitro evaluation of biological activities of extracts and secondary metabolites of medicinal plants and plant foods.
Paolo Guglielmi graduated in Drug Chemistry and Technologies from “Sapienza” University of Rome. He obtained a temporary research position at the same university to carry out the project “New insights on human monoamine oxidases inhibitors from natural sources”. Currently, he is doing his Ph.D. in “Pharmaceutical Sciences”, focusing his scientific activity on the design, synthesis and characterization of new compounds with potential biological activity.
Alessio Nocentini, PhD obtained his MSc in Medicinal Chemistry and Technologies in 2014 and the PhD in medicinal chemistry at the University of Florence (Italy), where he now works as a post-doc researcher. He was awarded with the best PhD thesis Prize 2018 by the Medicinal Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society. His research activity is mainly focused on the in silico design and synthesis of Carbonic Anhydrases modulators and their kinetic and biological characterization. He is author of over 40 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals with a high impact factor and a considerable number of contributions in conference proceedings (Scopus H-index: 13; number of citations: 364).
Dr. Francesco Prattichizzo obtained a Ph.D in the laboratory of General Pathology at Polytechnic University of Marche, Faculty of Medicine, Ancona/Italy. He then moved to IDIBAPS, Barcelona, Spain for a three years post-doctoral period. He is currently a researcher at IRCCS Multimedica, Milan, Italy. His research interests mainly focus on aging and type 2 diabetes, and in particular on the inflammatory and epigenetic mechanisms accompanying these pathological processes. Natural compounds with promising anti-aging and diabetes-managing properties are also subjects of its interest. Dr. Prattichizzo published more than 25 full-manuscripts and other conference proceedings in relevant journals covering topics from aging to diabetes and oxidative stress.
Dr. Alexandre obtained his Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Brazil. He had a position of postdoctoral fellowship (2008-2009) at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital (under supervision of Dr. Bruce David Levy). Currently he is an Associate Professor at Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro, Uberaba, Brazil. The scientific activity is mainly focused in the study of substances with anti-inflammatory or proresolution activities in the airways inflammation.
